Yggdrasil is the World Tree in Norse mythology, the axis around which the nine worlds are arranged. The main image of this two-channel work is a composite video of trees blowing in the wind, culled from a search of YouTube. The default state of the individual component videos is static, but they come to life according to the real time motion capture of a small sapling growing in a remote location. The webcam feed of this tiny tree is featured on the monitor just inside the gallery, and its movements are fed into software that drives the larger projected composite. I think of this small tree imagining itself as some mythical globe-spanning giant, each twitch of its sparse leaves re-envisioned as the swaying of mighty boughs somewhere in the nine worlds.
